The Past, Present, and Future

Have you heard of the place? The place where animals speak and flowers sing? The place where a drink makes you shrink and cake causes you to grow? This place known to so few outside of its realm is known as Wonderland.

Once, long ago this backwards realm was at a point of peace. The King and Queen ruled with a fair yet firm hand. Justice was kept with their loyal soldiers, the Cards as they were known. Slowly the peace fell began to fall apart, after all no great empire lasts forever. The Queen fell to sickness, soon passing and without his love the King sunk into a deep depression. This eventually led to him taking his own life leaving the world of Wonderland in the hands of his feuding daughters. Shortly after his death there was a great war leaving the Queen of Hearts, the eldest daughter, in control. After years of her reign of terror a Dreamwalker came to lead a rebellion with the aid of the Queen of Years, the younger sister of the Queen of Hearts.

The rebellion ended with the Queen of Hearts and her Knave being banished, the Dreamwalker also known as Alice, was sent home with the blood of the Jabberwocky. Things did not simply stop when the Dreamwalker exited the story, so much more happened. Before she was banished the exhaled Queen was held captive. After a daring attempt to escape she managed to get her hands on the Impossible Mirror. This Mirror is what allowed the travel between realms, angered with Alice and unaware she had already left the Queen broke the Mirror into seven parts to prevent Alice from going home. Only moments after she completed the task the Queen of Year’s men forced her out of the palace and into her banishment.

There was an after affect to breaking the Impossible Mirror. A side effect no one saw coming, instead of being one pathway it became several. Seven in fact, a new pathway per mirror shard. The Mirror on the side of the Dreamwalkers became split as well and spread across their world. This allowed more paths to open, eventually the Dreamwalkers caught on to these certain sites. This was centuries ago. The tale of Alice and her adventures and the mirror, both passed off for a fairy tale. Most of the population brushed off the story as a silly fairy tale. A story concocted by a man (Who happened to be Alice’s most trusted friend who wrote down the stories when she returned) as batty as the creatures in Wonderland.

For centuries that is what was assume, the adults of the world too frightened to truly believe in this mystical place and the fact that not everything was as it seemed. However, something has come to disturbed the boarder lying between Wonderland and the Earth and their pathways. When the single pathway split another realm was created with a new race. Over the centuries they have adopted the name of Shadow Walkers, or simply Walkers. It’s unknown how but they were able to walk between the two worlds effortlessly, even without the mirrors. A feet that no one before had thought it was possible, not even the mighty savor of Wonderland had managed it.

As a whole they were nasty creatures, vicious and bent on ruling the passages themselves. They wanted all the power that went with controlling the space between the realms. One day, they managed to collapse the passages between the two worlds cutting off Wonderland from Earth. An invisible boarder spread around Wonderland. The humans who had been visiting or simply stumbled across the border now trapped inside. Likewise with the Underlings in the human world. Families were split, feuds and hate spread across the land while facing the new problem. It seemed yet another war was beginning to erupt within Wonderland once more.

The White Queen attempting to contain the panic and simmering war between Walkers and the rest of Wonderland, the Red Queen quietly fueling it thinking this was her chance to regain the thrown her many times great-grandmother had lost. The humans joined their respective sides, Walker or Underlings. A few have rallied themselves under protection of the Kingsley Siblings, a pair still young like their own family who had originally found Wonderland. The Walkers used the chaos to build their own domain around the boarder, spreading their control as the only ones able to cross the border. Knowing this, there was still hope. Hope that they can one day cross the border and return home. For now, they work on making their lives in Wonderland as easy as possible, waiting for war to break out.
